We visited the Sonoran dessert last March whilst on holiday in Arizona, it’s a great place and not too hot yet in Spring. In Summer the heat must be unbearable !!! I loved every second of it !
THOSE SAGUARO CACTI WERE REALLY IMPRESSIVE, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU KNOW THEY ONLY GROW A FEW INCHES A YEAR.
THEY LOOKED ABSOLUTELY STUNNING AGAIST THE BLUE SKY.
THE SONORAN DESSERT STILL LOOKS VERY WILD.
LOTS OF WILDFLOWERS
FLOWER BUDS AND FRESH NEW LEAFS FOR THIS OCCOTILLO
A SPIDER HOLE IN THE GROUND, BUT I DIDN’T SEE THE SPIDER.
CACTI PARADISE FOR ME
RIPENING BERRIES ON A SUCCULENT PLANT WHO GREW ON A TREE
LUCKILY FOR MY HUB THERE WERE BIRDS TOO
We loved the peace and quiet, when you go on vacation in Europe there are crowds everywhere so you can’t take a decent picture !
Have a great week all and thanks for visiting, don’t forget to enjoy your garden or balcony !
As promised, more pictures of the Sonoran Dessert Museum.
PRETTY WILD FLOWERS GROWING ALONGSIDE THE CACTI
FRESH NEW SPRING LEAFS
OPUNTIA SANTA RITA
HUMMINGBIRDS ARE LURED WITH SWEET STUFF, THEY WERE KEPT IN AN AVIARY WHERE YOU COULD WALK INSIDE TO SEE THEM UP CLOSE
I LOVED THAT PERFECT BLUE SKY !!!!!
ADENIUM FLOWERS, A SUCCULENT
We loved our visit to the Sonoran Dessert garden, it was hot though even in March !
Thanks for your visit .
On our travels in Arizona last March we ended up one day in the Sonora Dessert Museum. We loved it ! So much to see, a great garden and lots of wildlife and on top some really really old gemstones and fossils. But it was hot ! even in March so I wonder what it’s like in Summer !!!!

HUMMINGBIRD IN AN AGAVE FLOWER STALK
Tomorrow I’ll continue with this Dessert Museum blogpost as I have too many pictures of it and I want to show you more.
I hope you are all well and happy !
On our way to Phoenix we visited Walnut Canyon, a beautiful piece of nature. You could see where people lived in the old days, they just had a hole in a mountain, that must have been really uncomfortable !
NATURE WAS VERY ROUGH AND PURE THERE, UNFORTUNATELY WE COULD NOT DO THE HIKING BIT COS OF MY TERRIBLE FEET SO WE WALKED ARROUND THERE AND DISCOVERED SOME BEAUTIFUL GEMS.
LIKE THIS BIRD
AND THESE CACTI HIDDEN UNDER A TREE
AND ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL BIRD
LOTS OF DEAD TREES USED BY BIRDS AND OTHER ANIMALS AS YOU CAN SEE
Have a great week all !!
Near Flagstaff we found a nature reserve and as we are always on the lookout for birds and other wildlife we stopped and walked through the park. There was still snow on the ground here and there so we had to be carefull as we are not 18 anymore…
I LOVE DEATH TREE’S, THEY LOOK LIKE SCULPTURES
IT WAS SUNNY AND ABOUT 20C° BUT STILL THERE WAS SNOW HERE AND THERE
LOTS OF LICHEN ON THE ROCKS
DEAD TREE’S EVERYWHERE AND LOTS OF DEAD WOOD
I TRIED TO PHOTOGRAPH A LITTLE BLUE BIRD HERE BUT IT WAS SOOOOO FAST !!!!
THIS ONE WAS SO NICE TO SIT STILL FOR A WHILE SO I COULD TAKE A PICTURE
THESE ANIMALS WERE THERE BUT WE DIDN’T SEE ANY OF THEM ONLY A FEW BIRDS BUT FOR THE ANIMALS TO SHOW IT IS BEST TO GO THERE EARLY IN THE MORNING OR LATE IN THE AFTERNOON BUT AS WE WERE PASSING HERE ON OUR WAY BACK FROM THE GRAND CANYON IT WAS TOO EARLY IN THE AFTERNOON BUT NEVER THE LESS IT WAS A PLEASANT WALK !
Thanks for stopping buy, I hope you all have a great day.
This was the longest trip we had in Arizona and what a difference ! At first we still had hot sunny weather and lots of cacti along the way but then the scenery changed and it got colder and grey and when we were almost in Flagstaff we saw…snow ! It wasn’t that cold ! about 20 C° and snow ? We had a wonderfull hotel there and we had a great time, very relaxing.
WE STOPPED TO SEE THE LAKE NEAR THE HOOVER DAM
AND TO OUR SURPRISE WE SAW THE CUTEST LITTLE ANIMALS ; CHIPMUNCKS, THEY WERE EVERYWHERE
Soon it was time for lunch and we stopped somewhere on route 66 , there was a place called The Roadkill Cafe, their motto : you kill it we grill it . We had a lovely meal and a coke served in a big goblet, we thought this was really funny. Outside this cafe there were some old remnants of a town build by the first cowboys we think.
AND THE MOST FUNNY THING ; A TOILET FOR TWO, very cosy….
AND THIS OLD CAR HELD A LOVELY SURPRISE, WHEN I LOOKED INSIDE I FOUND…
A CACTUS !
And then we travelled further to Flagstaff where we arrived late afternoon.
Have a great week all ! and thanks for stopping by.
