There is not much happening in the garden at the moment although some bulbs are sending out there antlers as we have had a soft Winter so far.
But my black beauty, Begonia Muddy Waters, is in bloom. The pink flowers are tiny but so very pretty and they go well with the black leafs. I just love these black leaves, they are pretty all year round.
I took this with a flash light as the weather is dark, rainy and grey, thats why they are not as black as they really are.
And here he is : in full bloom.
Have a great week all !
This is one of several small plantcorners in my house.
A FEW DRACAENA’S, A SANSEVIERA AND A BEAUCARNEA RECURVATA, IN THE REAL WORLD THEY BECOME HUGE TREE’S
AS THERE IS NOT MUCH TO DO IN THE GARDEN AT THE MOMENT I WANT TO INTRODUCE YOU TO SOME EASY POTPLANTS FOR INSIDE WHO ARE VERY STRONG, ALMOST UN-KILLABLE ! SO PERFECT PLANTS FOR THE NOT SO GREEN THUMBED AMONGST US.
THE FIRST ONE IS A ZAMIOCULCAS, A HORRIBLE NAME, I KNOW, HE HASN’T A COMMON NAME YET, BUT IN SHORT IT IS CALLED A ZAMIO.
IT IS NOT A PLANT YOU BUY FOR ITS BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS BUT IT HAS VERY NICE GREEN LEAFS AND IT GROWS REASONABLY FAST. IT IS A RELATIVE OF THE ANTHURIUM (flamingoplant) AND OF THE SPATHIPHYLUM (peace plant) . IT WAS FOUND IN KENIA, ZANZIBAR AND MADAGASCAR AND INTRODUCED IN EUROPE IN THE MID 1990’S WHERE IT IS VERY SUCCESFULL.
THEY DON’T NEED A LOT OF WATER, YOU CAN TREAT IT LIKE A SUCCULENT, IN SPRING AND SUMMER LET THE SOIL DRY OUT COMPLETELY FOR AT LEAST A WEEK BEFORE WATERING AGAIN, IN WINTER IT NEEDS A BIT OF WATER ONCE A MONTH. THE ZAMIO LIKES A BIT OF SHADE AND NO DIRECT SUN. IN SPRING AND SUMMER IT LOVES A PLACE ON THE PATIO OR IN THE GARDEN BUT IN HALF SHADE !!!
MINIMUM DAY TEMPERATURES ARE 12 C° (54 F) MINIMUM NIGHT TEMPERATURES 5C° (41 F)
REPOT EVERY 3 YEARS IN NORMAL SOIL MIXED WITH A FEW PEBBLES. IT GROWS FAST AND NEEDS A FEED ONCE IN A WHILE.
BUT IT IS STRONG AND WHEN YOU DON’T OVERWATER IT OR KEEP IT OUTSIDE IN WINTER YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO KILL IT, A PERFECT PLANT FOR BEGINNERS !!!
Fuchsia’s, you cannot but love them !!! They are easy to care for and look pretty a whole Summer till the first frost. I always go for the winterhardy ones(some are more winterhardy than others) and there are a lot to chose from and it is difficult to make a choice as where I buy my plants they have over 3000 !!!! different fuchsia’s to chose from!!! Most of them love shade but there are a lot who like a place in the sun if they get enough water.
THIS LAST ONE IS FUCHSIA MAGELLANICA, THE MOST WINTERHARDY OF ALL, YOU CAN PUT IT IN A BIG POT BUT IT IS ACTUALLY A BUSH, YOU CUT IT DOWN IN SPRING AND IN NO TIME IT GROWS TO 1.25 M OR HIGHER AND IT BLOOMS FOR MONTHS ON END.
ENJOY YOUR GARDEN AND THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT !
